About the Academy

  • We need our students today to answer the call to be tomorrow’s heroes.  Through the Public Service Academy, students learn how they can be heroes in their community in the following career fields: education/teaching, criminal justice, public safety, emergency medical care, and government.

The Public Service Academy affords students exciting opportunities to earn certifications in public safety (police/fire) and emergency medical technician (EMT), complete college coursework, and experience hands-on learning by being involved in community service opportunities, internships, and partnerships with governmental agencies.  Students who have an interest in education/teaching can explore what it is like to be a teacher and gain an understanding of what it takes to be a leader in the classroom through the teacher cadet program.

Students from outside the Cherryville attendance area who will be in the ninth grade for the 2024-2025 school year may apply for this program. A lottery process will be used to determine the 50 ninth grade students who will attend (from outside the Cherryville attendance area).
