Inclement Weather Policy

  • During extremely bad weather, it sometimes becomes necessary for a decision to be made concerning the closing of schools.  When a decision is made in the early morning that schools will be closed for the day or that schools will operate on a delay, the information will be relayed quickly to students, parents, and employees.

    A decision to close schools or operate on a delay will be announced by 6:00 a.m.

    Below is how èAVƵ informs students, parents, employees, and the community about weather-related school closings and delays.

    Our automated telephone communication system that calls parents and employees.

    Area Radio and TV Stations
    Announcements provided to area radio stations and Charlotte television stations.

    Area Newspapers
    Announcements provided to The èAVƵ Gazette, Belmont Banner-News, Cherryville Eagle, and other area newspapers.

    When a decision to close school or delay the start of school is made, school officials, transportation personnel, and law enforcement are primarily concerned with the safety and welfare of all students, parents, and employees.

    Please note that the absence of any announcement means that schools will be open as usual.

    If inclement weather forces us to close schools, the Board of Education reserves the right to use early release days and Saturdays as make-up days.
