Four soon-to-be graduates participate in Career Signing Day
When you think of a signing day, you probably think of a student signing a letter of intent to play a sport. But èAVƵ recently held a signing event of a different kind.
èAVƵ held its first-ever Career Signing Day on May 16. The event recognized four students who are graduating from high school and going straight into the workforce. During the career signing ceremony, the students “signed” for jobs with local employers GSM Services, Dixon Quick Coupling, and Pharr Yarns.
Upon graduation, Hunter Huss High School students Diamond Benton and Rianna Shipp will have jobs at Pharr Yarns, which is based in McAdenville. Both will work as yarn machine operators.
North èAVƵ High School will also have students entering the workforce after graduation. Riley Belt signed on with Dixon Quick Coupling in Dallas, and Garrett Jones will graduate with a job at GSM Services in èAVƵia. Belt will serve as a machine operator, and Jones will be an HVAC technician.
According to Brett Buchanan, director of Career and Technical Education, the students have managed to balance learning the ins and outs of a new job while also continuing to do well in school. Their ability to handle school and work resulted in a local job placement right out of high school.
Buchanan hopes to have more Career Signing Day ceremonies. He believes it is important to bring attention to students who use their Career and Technical Education coursework and training in high school to take their first step toward a promising career.
