Tryout Information

  • Complete prior to tryouts.

Tryouts are scheduled for June 4-6 at Highland Gym. Sessions on June 4 and 5 will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will be dedicated to learning the material. June 6 will be the tryout date, set from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The final squad will be announced by the end of June.

During these sessions, students will learn new basketball and football cheers, a chant, a band dance, and a regular dance. Athletes will also have time to practice jumps and showcase any stunting skills they may already possess. Following these sessions, students will be expected to practice independently at home, as this is often the primary method for mastering new material before coming together as a full squad. Students must be able to self-monitor their time and demonstrate dedication and focus to ensure they have sufficient time and energy for all their responsibilities.

The official tryout will take place on the final day of the session. Students will try out in groups of two or three and perform for a panel of judges who will score them using a rubric. Students with tumbling skills will perform individually, with their tumbling judged in addition to their overall performance.

Please review the Cheer Handbook and Parent Letter to determine if this commitment aligns with your willingness to participate. Students MUST have a current physical and information form completed before participating in tryouts. Additionally, students planning to try out MUST secure two current teacher recommendations (found here) before the tryout date.
