About the Academy

  • It’s never too early for students to begin thinking about the future.  At the middle school level, the Career Academy makes it possible for students to explore a variety of career fields so they can get an idea of job opportunities that await once they graduate from high school and college.

At Southwest, students focus on career exploration in the areas of family and human services (foods, health, and public service) and business and information technology.  Through the Career Academy, students learn that their future (regardless of which career they select) will be influenced by technology and involve service to others.

This program provides a pathway for students to participate in the Career Academy at Hunter Huss High School.

Students from outside the Southwest attendance area who will be in the sixth grade for the 2024-2025 school year may apply for this program. A lottery process will be used to determine the 30 sixth grade students who will attend (from outside the Southwest attendance area).
